Manager Haslam sounds rallying cry ahead of Atherton clash

Manager Haslam sounds rallying cry ahead of Atherton clash

Liam Ryder14 Apr 2023 - 18:00

"We go into games to win. It's important we finish the season strongly."

That was the response of Whitby Town manager Nathan Haslam when asked about the final two matches of the season going into the Seasiders' upcoming clash with Atherton Collieries on Saturday.

Haslam's side have now gone five games without a win, but the Town boss insists his charges are eager to finish the campaign on a high.

"A draw's all we need to be mathematically safe but we go into games to win," he told whitbytownfc.com. "We went in with the same attitude against South Shields and the performance matched our ambition.

"At the moment we're just going through a bit of a baron spell in front of goal and we need to try and change that."

The reverse fixture against Colls saw Haslam's team come out on top at the Towbar Express Stadium @ The Turnbull Ground, with Bradley Fewster's second half strike being all that separated the two sides.

Haslam believes that with the right attitude, his side have it in them to grind out a result against an outfit who are even more desperate for points in their battle to pull away from the lower reaches of the table in the final matches of the campaign.

"The team are applying a great attitude which is what we need," he said. "We just need to keep believing in ourselves in the final two games.

"It's important that, as a group, we're not going into holiday mode. It's important that we finish the season strongly because a couple of positive results can lift us into mid-table which would represent a successful season after the poor start we had."

The Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division match against Atherton Collieries kicks off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. We'll have live coverage of the fixture on Whitby Town Radio, as well as on our social media channels.
