Phil Brumwell brought in Kev on loan from Darlington in March 2008 to help in the club's fight against relegation, making his debut in a 2-1 defeat against Guiseley at the Turnbull Ground on the 21st March 2008, going on to make five appearances that season as Whitby survived relegation with a last day 4-0 victory over Ilkeston.

Having initially played as a right-back, the 2009/10 season saw him move to the centre of defence. He stayed for seven seasons before re-joining his former club Darlington at the start of the 2015/16 campaign. He went on to lift the Northern Premier League with them that season, the title being won at the Turnbull Ground where Darlington came out on top with a 7-1 victory, with Kev scoring the Quakers' second of the night.

Chris Hardy brought him back on loan from Darlington in December 2017 to help in another battle against the drop and he made his 2nd debut for the club in a 2-2 draw at home to Coalville Town on Saturday 9th December 2017 going on to play 19 games as Whitby again survived relegation, his last appearance coming in a 5-1 home defeat to Grantham Town on 19th April 2018. In total, Kev made 295 appearances for Whitby scoring 12 goals.

My first thought was that Whitby Town FC had a great set up for a Northern Premier League standard and it seemed a perfect fit for me. It was only 35 minutes from home and a chance to get some regular game time and enjoy my football again having been a young player and signing a two year pro deal at Darlington and not getting the game time I needed.

After meeting Phil Brumwell, Graeme Clark, Graham Manser and Spenner and how they spoke, the passion and vision they showed for the club, how well run it was, how family friendly it was, and how they would love for me to be apart of that was music to my ears. It gave me that feeling of being wanted again which every player needs at a club so it was a no brainer.

After meeting the fans and volunteers, I knew they were right. I've never met a more family friendly club than Whitby Town where you spoke to volunteers, the committee and fans before games and didn’t mind staying after games having a pint getting to know people more and talking about the game and football in general. I made some great friendships that still last today.

There were a lot of memorable games, but a few that stick out obviously the ones where you score in. I think I got 12 goals in my time at Whitby, my first being in a 7-2 win against Newcastle Blue Star in the League Cup. The most memorable one for me was the overhead kick from 20 yards out at Chasetown away, which unfortunately wasn’t caught on camera so I was gutted about that. I would've liked to have seen that back. But you always remember the games where you score in, especially being a centre half!

The Buxton away game, when we took some great numbers of travelling fans and they made their voices heard throughout the game was another great memory. It was the last game of the 2011-12 season and we needed to win to stay up and we did 1-0. There were some great scenes and celebrations. The other memorable match is the 7-0 victory at Blyth Spartans. I think there were some unbelievable goals scored in that game and it was a dominant performance!

I had a lot of great friendships at Whitby. I know it’s hard to believe with the fall outs I had on the pitch, not just with the opposition but my own team mates over the years, but that was just because of my complete passion and wanting better from them, sometimes myself and us all, to do better for the club. It was great as we could just leave all that on the pitch and have a drink and laugh in the clubhouse and on nights out. That was credit to the club for the types of players they recruited that could do that week in, week out.

I get to call two of my friendships from the club my best mates today in Macca and Leon Scott. They're like brothers to me and there are a lot of great memories and laughs on nights out. Each night out was a great team bonding session which all teams need and we certainly had some great lads there over the years.
