Jamie Poole reflects on his spells with Whitby Town

Jamie joined from Guisborough Town, in September 2006, for a debut in a 5-0 away defeat at Guiseley, that was Jamie's only appearance. He had a successful second spell, making his second debut in a 1-0 home defeat to Curzon Ashton on the 20th August 2014, before joining Norton & Stockton Ancients. He returned for his third spell in January 2016 to help in Whitby's fight against relegation, making his third debut in a 2-2 draw away to Darlington. In December 2017, he again signed for the Seasiders, from Stockton Town, to once more help Whitby successfully avoid relegation, making his fourth debut in a superb 3-1 away victory over Workington. Jamie made a total of 34 appearances for Whitby Town, scoring one goal.

The first time I played for the Blues, it was a long time back. Lee Nogan was the manager, I was only young and lasted one game marking Arron Lennon's brother. It was 5-0 at half time and I got dragged off never to be seen again....

I came back under Daz Williams and wow I just got a good feel of the place - great ground with great people around and the fans are brilliant. Then I came back under Chardy and had a massive part playing a good run of games to keep us up, which I loved so much, as I played so many games in a row - which was a shock!

I’ve loved loads of games. I think every time I started, it was memorable to me. Maybe my first goal - at Barwell- an overhead kick from 18 yards away.

I loved playing with Kieza and Rio May. Rio was so cool on the ball and technically very good. Kieza's a class defender, an athlete and swept so much up with his pace.

On away games, I never sat down with anyone - walking up and down the bus - maybe everyone tried to keep away. I've done commentary on Whitby Town Radio - I was better than Paul Connolly on my first time - and I've also balanced a few things on my head in my time with the club. I can remember a traffic cone, a chair, a table, a wheelie bin, a beer keg, and a lamppost! I used to always be able to balance a ball on my head, so I thought I might as well try big objects and went from there.

I remember the game that nothing got past me even got hit in the balls twice blocking the ball from going in in a 2-0 win over Ashton, also Colwyn Bay away, that was an amazing day and result for us.
