Chris Hardy brought in the ex St Mirren, Forfar Athletic, Hartlepool Utd, Forest Green Rovers, Spennymoor Town and Blyth Spartans goalkeeper on loan from Bishop Auckland in September 2018 to replace the injured Jack Norton and he made his debut in the 1-0 defeat at Whitley Bay in an FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie on Saturday 8th September 2018.

Adam made his league debut for Whitby three days later, in a 2-1 victory over Stalybridge Celtic at the Turnbull Ground. He played 18 of the next 21 games in which time Adam signed permanently for the Blues. He made a further three appearances before the end of the season when he was released. In total, Adam made 23 appearances for Whitby Town. He's now at Northern League side Ashington.

My first impressions of the club were really good. I thought it was a very friendly and welcoming club. The supporters were top notch and I noticed in games when we didn’t perform they still got behind the lads and always appreciated hard work.

I knew when I was joining that Whitby Town always seemed to have good keepers, knowing Blandy and Jack already. I knew I would have to perform from the off to gain the confidence of the lads.

I ended up joining Whitby due to an injury to Jack Norton. I was at Bishop Auckland at the time and had a chance to move back up the leagues, so I was keen for the move. I knew the extra travelling would be hard due to working shifts in the Fire Service, but I was happy to switch things about to make it work.

The move came about quickly, I got a call from Chardy early in the week and I signed a few forms. I then went straight into the starting 11 on the Saturday.

The two games that probably stand out for me were South Shields at home and Scarborough away in the League Cup. Unfortunately we lost both games but playing against Shields at the Turnbull with a packed crowd are games all footballers want to play in, and again playing a derby against Scarborough. You could feel the tension and occasion out on the pitch.

Most of the time was spent with the other goalkeepers. Jack, Dicko and young Dan Miller. They are all good characters and we had a good rapport. Anyone who knows Jack knows he’s a character and good to be around. Some of the other lads I knew from playing in other teams. I knew the likes of David McTiernan from our time at Blyth Spartans. All in all, it was a good dressing room to be a part of.

I’d played against Whitby before for other teams so knew about them previously. They'd always been a tough opponent. I was surprised how friendly a club it was. Not many clubs' supporters stay behind the lads as much as Whitby fans do.
