Matthew Dixon joined Whitby Town from local rivals Scarborough Athletic ahead of the 2019/20 season and became a regular in the Seasiders' side.
Dixon made 35 appearances in total, four as a substitute, and scored the one goal which came in the Blues' 4-0 victory over Widnes in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The versatile player has been looking back at the his first campaign with the club, talking highlights and where he believes the club could have finished.
I really enjoyed my first season with Whitby Town as we had a good set of lads. We had a really good start to the season but then we had a few bad results. Maybe our FA Cup run hindered us a little bit but we bounced back well from Christmas onwards and that put us in a good position so it's a shame that the season got cut short. With the form we had I feel that we had a really good chance of getting into the play-offs. If we made it into the final month of the season anything could have happened. Overall I really enjoyed my first season with the club though.
I think that everyone felt that we could have made it into the play-offs. In January and February we must have been one of the form sides in the league and we went into every game thinking that we could get something from it. We lost to FC United and Warrington in January and we probably should have got something from both of those games but we were doing well.
My highlight of the season has to be the FA Cup run in general. We gave it a really good go but it's a shame that we couldn't make it to the first round. I know that some players will be looking at the games against Scarborough as big matches but they weren't occasions that were too big to me personally as I've played against former sides before so it was nothing new. I think that you maybe find something else in your game when you're up against your former side as you've perhaps got a point to prove. The first game against them was fairly even up until half-time but once we went 1-0 up we were in control so that was a good night. In the away game we were disappointed and on another day we could have come away with at least a point because we missed quite a few chances if I remember rightly.
Looking ahead to next season there's been quite a few changes and I don't really know many of the new lads but it will be good to meet everybody once we get back to training. We'll take it from there and we've to push for the top half of the table and the play-offs.
